About Petroglyph National Monument

The Petroglyph National Monument is a unique family destination in the Albuquerque area. The monument safeguards one of North America’s most extensive petroglyph sites, showcasing designs and symbols etched into volcanic rocks by Native Americans and Spanish settlers 400 to 700 years ago. These petroglyphs are not only a crucial historical record of cultural expression but also possess deep spiritual meaning for present-day Native Americans and descendants of the early Spanish settlers, serving as a precious link to their ancestral heritage and beliefs.
